Ms. Alma Sanchez - Newest AHA Assistant Principal

Alma Sanchez - Assistant PrincipalRecently, Atrisco Heritage Academy High School principal, Ms. Irene Cisneros, welcomed a new assistant principal into our family by proclaiming, "Alma Sanchez comes over to AHA from George I. Sanchez Collaborative Community School where she was an assistant principal for the last 3 years.  Alma comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and will be an asset to her position as an AP of Student Services."

I’ve worked 12 of my 13 years at schools in this community, which is also my community where I live,” said Ms. Sanchez.  “Most recently, at the middle school I was at, I continually encouraged students to do their best and know that high school graduation wasn’t far away.”

Ms. Sanchez will be working with the 9th grade team and overseeing school-wide student supports, community outreach including our family resource center/family engagement.  “Over the past 3 years I had worked with the admin team here at Atrisco in different capacities linking the bridge from Pre-K - 8th grade on through 12th grade.  In that time, I got to experience different facets of the AHA community.  I was excited at the opportunity to work at AHA because I am now able to continue to work with our students through graduation and see them walk down that graduation aisle and become successful contributing citizens.”

Ms. Sanchez obtained her MBA degree then went back to Highlands University for an educational leadership certificate for her administration licensure.

“I am very passionate about and always looking for innovate ways to integrate technology in our schools and classrooms. I believe that combining traditional teaching with technology provides students with the tools they need for our ever-changing world and for the careers they will seek in the 21st century.”

Leandra Chacon, Class of 2017, and alma Sanchez s daughterMs. Sanchez is originally from Taos, NM, and has resided in Albuquerque for 16 years.  She has lived in our community and the South Valley for seven-plus years.  She has four children - ages 20, 19, 10 and 2.  She enjoys "seeing students in the community" and her daughter, Leandra Chacon, was a 2017 graduate!  According to AHA Principal Irene Cisneros, “She is excited and whole-heartedly looking forward to joining the amazing team at AHA!"

Ms. Sanchez says her ultimate goals are “…to assure that all students have the supports and resources needed to have a positive and engaging high school experience so they graduate with essential 21st century skills to become global leaders” and for “…students and their families to have a smooth and informed transition from 8th grade to 9th grade so they are well prepared to make responsible choices for high school.”

The Atrisco Heritage Academy High School staff is proud to welcome Ms. Alma Sanchez to our family and we know she will be a tremendous asset to this community and to our students and their families.
